The V
Girona Seminar is organized in Honour of Professor Haruo Hosoya.
The 5th
GISEM will be structured into three events. Theoretical Chemistry taken in the
broadest sense possible will be the protagonist of these meetings. Procedures, general
applications and specific problems will be studied. Assistants can choose to
assist to the whole set of events up to one of them. The details of the three
events are sketched as follows:
|
Theoretical, Mathematical and Computational
Chemistry (TheoChem) |
|
Co-Chairman:
J. Karwowski (Torun) Start:
July 12 / End: July 13. Emphasis
on original and newest aspects of algorithms, mathematical structures,
computational details, theoretical developments… more than in simple
numerical results, which will be kept at a minimum level. |
|
Molecular
Similarity, Density Functions & Applied Theoretical Chemistry (MolSim) |
|
Co-Chairman:
R. Ponec (Prague) Start:
July 16 / End: July 17. Any
new aspect of Molecular Similarity is welcome. Applications to QSAR and
reactivity, as well as shape analysis and other related topics would be
treated. Several density function theoretical aspects will be added as an
event branch. Electrostatic Potentials and Protein structure will be also
included as event topics. |
|
Quantitative
Structure –Toxicity Relationships (QSTR), QSPR & QSAR |
|
Co-Chairmen: E. Benfenati (Milano) & A.
Grauel (Paderborn) Start:
July 19 / End: July 20. General
features on the subject will be included. The related fields of QSAR and QSPR
will be hopefully present. This is a practically oriented event. However,
theoretical insight towards the evaluation of the molecular eco-toxicity will
be present. Original computational points of view will be also present.
Molecular Similarity QSTR modelling will be one of the topics. |
Chairman: R. Carbó-Dorca (Girona)
The previous
editions of the Girona Seminars have always been directed to the training and
learning of young students and assistants. Besides to the assistance to the
main lectures, the students are encouraged to present oral poster sessions,
which in the last Seminar dating of 1998, was organized as a set of short
spoken conferences aided by computer generated slides, which the students where
asked to prepare. This time, due to the success of the last version the poster
sessions will be organized in the same manner. The students are forced into
exposing their work in front of a senior audience, who can pose some questions
at the end. Besides this student high level training sessions, there will be
present several forum sessions where all the assistants can discuss on topics
related to the seminar event. Students will be encouraged to participate.
Moreover, student work if considered of sufficient entity will be forced to be
written in a paper and published after
revision.
Girona Seminars
have become stable high-level biannual scientific gatherings (see i.e. IV Girona Seminar in Molecular Similarity). Every seminar has had printed a speakers’ lecture collection
in form of a book. For further information see seminar’s book collection.
The 5th
GISEM will be no exception: Lecturers will be invited to bring a manuscript.
Events 1) and 2) will form at least a volume, probably published by Kluwer in
the Mathematical and Computational Chemistry series book and
event 3) will be published in: SAR & QSAR in Environmental Research. Oral Posters’
Sessions and Discussion Forums on specific aspects of theoretical chemistry
will be also scheduled.
